Outstanding Louisville Slugger model W215 bat used in 1967 by Boston Red Sox hero Rico Petrocelli. One of the greatest shortstops in team history Petrocelli was in his third full season in 1967 a team leader that finished 17th in the league MVP voting. Of course Petrocelli would hit two home runs in Game 6 of the 1967 World Series helping propel the team to a pivotal Game 7 which they would lose to St. Louis. The loss did little to harm Petrocelli's outstanding legacy however as he continued to star with the team well into the 1970s. His 1969 season was one of the great offensive seasons of the era for the Sox as he batted .297 with 40 home runs and 97 RBI. Petrocelli along with second baseman Mike Andrews formed the backbone of a solid Red Sox defense up the middle between 1965 and 1970 (Andrews was traded to Chicago in 1970) becoming fan favorites along the way. Though the team would not reach the World Series again until 1975 Petrocelli remains a Red Sox fan favorite and outstanding ambassador for the game to this day. The bat is an outstanding example measuring 35 inches and weighing 32.7 ounces fairly well pounded with ball marks bat rack streaks and a generous coating of pine tar on the handle. The weight of the bat is written in pencil on the knob where Petrocelli's uniform number 6 is written in a fading black marker. Petrocelli has inscribed the bat "From Rico May 12 1967 Sox 4 Tigers 5" in black marker on the barrel. Petrocelli went 0-for-2 with two walks that day but there are clearly plenty of hits in this bat as Petrocelli used it until it finally developed a light crack in the handle. An outstanding bat used by a Boston Red Sox hero and friend of LOTG Auctions shortstop Rico Petrocelli. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA graded GU 9.5.
