Outstanding Louisville Slugger bat used by rookie second baseman Mike Andrews early in his 8-year career. A key member of the Red Sox' pennant-winning 1967 team Andrews led the American League in sacrifice hits that season the first of two pennant-winners he would play on in his career (the second being the 1973 Oakland A's). That season Andrews paired up with shortstop Rico Petrocelli to form a dependable middle infield; the two would remain the backbone of the Red Sox infield through 1970 when Andrews was traded to Chicago for Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio. During the 1967 season Andrews was typically the leadoff hitter and scored 79 runs and batted .263 in that pitching-dominant season batting ahead of sluggers Tony Conigliaro Carl Yastrzemski George Scott and Petrocelli. After his retirement Andrews became the chairman of the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer institute the charity that has partnered with the Red Sox and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for research and treatment of childhood and adult cancer. The Louisville Slugger measures a lengthy 35 inches weighing 33 ounces with the weight written in pencil on the bat knob. Andrews' uniform number 2 is written in marker on the knob. The uncracked bat exhibits excellent signs of use including a light coating of pine tar. The bat has received an exceptional grade of GU 9 from John Taube of PSA/DNA. An outstanding bat from one of the key players on the 1967 American League Champion Boston Red Sox - rookie second baseman Mike Andrews.
