The 1928 W502 issue is an enigma. Similar in appearance and size to the ice cream cards of 1928 (Yuengling"s Tharps Harrington and Sweetman) the W502 cards contain no information on the card which would identify the issuer. Instead printed on the backs of many of the cards would be what appears to be a baseball-related game with either "ONE BAGGER " "ONE BAGGER-Hold What You Got" (printed from top to bottom on the back) "ONE BAGGER - Hold What You Got" (printed from bottom to top on the back) "THREE BAGGER (with or without a prize redemption " or "HOME RUN" (with or without a prize redemption). 1928 W502 cards are also available with blank backs. According to hobby researcher Al Crisafulli (wow that"s me) who conducted some research into this set some years ago blank-backs account for approximately half the population of W502s and "ONE BAGGER" backs approximately a quarter. Based on the presence of a redemption offer it is assumed that these cards were either made available by a retail store (or perhaps multiple stores) or packaged inside some type of candy. Some suggest that the blank-backed cards were issued in some other fashion and are actually a different issue than the cards with printing on the backs. This Lazzeri card has a more difficult "ONE BAGGER - Hold What You Got" back (printed from top to bottom). An extraordinary card this Lazzeri is one of just two cards graded by SGC at this level with none higher. Remarkably well-centered for a W502 the corners are very sharp and the image is clear. High-grade W502s are rare. In fact PSA has graded just one card higher than this in the entire set and SGC just 9. This is an outstanding example of an ultra-high grade Hall of Famer with a tougher back from a scarce and difficult set.
