LATE NOTE: A scan of the MEARS LOA has now been uploaded to this lot listing. By 1975 29-year-old Jim Palmer was a bona-fide superstar having won 20 games in four consecutive seasons and his first Cy Young Award in 1973. Derailed by elbow problems in 1974 Palmer returned to full strength in 1975 and put together what was arguably his best season a 23-11 campaign with a 2.09 ERA and ten shutouts in 323 innings helping lead the Orioles to a second place finish in the AL East with a 90-69 record. In 1975 Palmer would begin a new streak of 20-win seasons accomplishing the goal a total of eight times between 1970 and 1978 on the way to the Hall of Fame. By 1975 broadcaster Ted Patterson was firmly entrenched in Baltimore and he became the recipient of this home Baltimore Orioles jersey from Palmer. The jersey is in outstanding shape a Rawlings 7-button knit jersey size 42 with set tags in the tail. The jersey is in tremendous condition clean and bright with heavy signs of use but no significant staining or repairs. Palmer signed and inscribed the jersey "1975 Cy Young" on the left tail. The jersey became a part of a display of Palmer's equipment photos and cards that graced Ted Patterson's main memorabilia room for years - the arrangement of the display included a pair of the pitcher's game-worn cleats (watch for them in a future auction) one of which was positioned on top of the jersey. The cleats were covered in Memorial Stadium clay which stained the front of the jersey. Since it is Love of the Game policy not to alter material that is consigned to us in any way it was sent to MEARS with the stain in place causing a reduction of one point in the MEARS grading system. As such the jersey attained a grade from MEARS of A9. A tremendous piece of Ted Patterson's outstanding game-worn collection one of his finest baseball jerseys from what was arguably the greatest season of Baltimore giant Jim Palmer. Full LOA from MEARS.
