Interesting postcard depicting pitcher Jack Warhop in a studio environment a pre-rookie postcard dating to 1907 and picturing him with the Freeport Pretzels of the Wisconsin State League. The following season would find Warhop with the New York Highlanders where he would remain a staple through 1915 his finest season likely being 1912 when despite having a losing record of 10-19 for the then-hapless Highlanders posted an ERA of just 2.86 in 39 games striking out 110 and giving up just 256 hits in 258 innings. Warhop carved out his place in baseball history in 1915 however - May 6 in fact when facing Babe Ruth. The 20-year-old pitcher clubbed the first pitch in the third inning into the right-field grandstand for the first home run of his career. Nearly a month later on June 2 the same two teams - and the same two pitchers - would face off against each other at Yankee Stadium and Ruth would belt his second career home run off Warhop as well! The mighty Babe would homer off 216 different pitchers in his career - connecting off Rube Walberg an astonishing 17 times - but the first two came off Jack Warhop. The postcard is in GOOD condition due to a light crease along the left edge that breaks into the paper; despite the visible wear the card presents very well with excellent image clarity and detail.
