Popular advertising poster dating to Jackie Robinson's rookie season advertising Homogenized Bond Bread. This poster is extremely desirable to collectors due to its age and subject matter one of the most rare and historically important of all the baseball advertising posters. Research conducted by other reputable auctions indicate that these posters were designed by Bond to hang exclusively in stores in black neighborhoods the ad featuring both Jackie and Rachel Robinson. The posters were designed with adhesive in the corners for hanging in store windows. As a result surviving examples are often found with significant damage to the upper and lower corners. In this case the corners are largely intact though there is mild paper loss from the removal of the adhesive along with a series of spider creases along the top edge. The most significant flaw with this piece is of course the loss of much of the red coloring in the copy and headlines the result of prolonged sun exposure in the store window where it hung. Clearly this poster was put to good use during its time of issue. It is currently affixed inside a pair of cardboard mattes affixed in place with a small amount of framer's tape. Though we elected to leave the piece inside the matte for protection and aesthetics we did inspect the edges and found them clean with little sign of wear. An outstanding piece perhaps a candidate for professional restoration to bring back the red coloration of the copy and headlines otherwise very attractive and important.
