1954 Wilson Franks is perhaps the most legendary regional set of the 1950s. Notoriously scarce and difficult to obtain in high grade the cards were distributed in packages of Wilson hot dogs lending themselves to significant issues with staining. The cards which looked similar to the 1954 Topps baseball cards had much more narrow borders making centering a serious condition problem with the set as well. Those issues coupled with attractive photography vibrant colors and a high concentration of stars and Hall of Famers of the day make Wilson Franks a favorite among collectors even today.Presented here is a very attractive card of St. Louis infielder and Hall of Famer Red Schoendienst. Accurately graded VG-EX by PSA the card"s vibrant color is its strongest feature. Exhibiting the centering issue and corner/edge wear consistent with most cards from this issue this card is an exceptionally high-grade example for the issue (as a testament to the condition issues with these cards fewer than half the total graded population of 1954 Wilson Franks have graded EX or better). This is an excellent example of a desirable but difficult to locate issue a key card type of a Hall of Famer. In a nod to our friend the late Chris Stufflestreet a collector who passed away as this auction was being prepared: Hey Red you"re about to get hit in the head with a flying pack of hot dogs!
