Our fall 2018 auction included a number of pieces that were taken from the estate of 19th Century ballplayer Harry Stovey. Stovey often considered a strong candidate for Hall of Fame induction was the subject of a section of our auction catalog with some of his passes awards correspondence and two Gilbert & Bacon cabinet photos included in that auction. At the time our consignor requested that we hold back a single cabinet photo from that auction along with a few other small pieces. Of the cabinet photos we were given we held back the highest-graded of the three a "hands at chest catching ball" pose that SGC deemed to grade VG/EX 4. Since the close of that auction our consignor has elected to sell the final cabinet photo from the Stovey collection advising us to include it in our Spring 2019 auction. This is that cabinet a beautiful Gilbert & Bacon cabinet with a crystal clear image of Stovey. Boasting incredible detail and crisp contrast the cabinet is more than worthy of the grade assessed by SGC and in fact would not look out of place in a higher holder.
