Though this 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco card of Giants second baseman Danny Richardson exhibits significant toning beggars cannot be choosers when it comes to Yum Yums. This is an extraordinarily rare issue with only a hundred or so graded examples known. The set which includes both illustrations and photographic portraits promotes Yum Yum brand smoking and chewing tobacco and features players from the eight National League teams plus the Brooklyn Grays of the American Association. The checklist from the unnumbered set currently includes 61 cards but likely will include more as new examples are discovered. Only a few examples of each subject are known to exist and each one attracts significant demand among collectors when one arises at public auction. The pose of Richardson is a familiar one as it is identical to that of his 1888 G&B Chewing Gum card and strikingly similar to that of his Kalamazoo Bats card (though in that card he is wearing a cap). An exceptionally rare card one of just three graded highly prized by advanced collectors.
