Interesting Coby Studio photo picturing speedy outfielder Elmer Foster primarily known among collectors as being included in the N172 "Spotted Tie" subset. This particular photo originally sold in a grouping of photos originating from his family estate depicts him wearing the uniform of a "Flour City" team. "Flour City" is a long-forgotten nickname for the city of Minneapolis MN once considered the flour capital of the country. It is likely that the "Flour City" jersey is simply an alternate jersey for the Minneapolis Millers of the Western Association where Foster played centerfield during parts of the 1887 1889 and 1890 seasons. The star outfielder was known locally for assaulting a Minneapolis Tribune journalist in 1890 ostensibly for his criticism of an ice rink that Foster had set up at the Millers' ballpark which was closed due to lack of interest. The cabinet is in GOOD condition exhibiting wear common to cabinets including edge damage pinholes and light foxing. Foster's name has been written at the top of the photo; some handwritten numbers appear on the reverse. Despite all this the quality of the photo itself is exceptional the "Flour City" uniform an interesting curiosity likely related to the widely-collected Minneapolis ballclub.
