Full ticket to the 1980 All-Star game the first All-Star game played at Dodger Stadium (though the second in Los Angeles as the 1959 game was played at Memorial Coliseum). The game marked a 4-2 victory for the Dodgers but was also important in that it was one of the final games pitched by Houston Astros starter J.R. Richard. One of the most incredible pitchers of his era from 1976 through 1979 no player was more dominant. Richard reeled off a string of seasons with records of 20-15 18-12 18-11 18-11 and 18-13 all with ERAs no higher than 3.11. He struck out more than 300 batters two seasons in a row and in 1980 headed into the all-star break with an astonishing 10-4 record and a 1.90 earned run average. He pitched in the All-Star game striking out three batters in two innings. In his start on July 14 he began to have difficulty seeing his catcher's signs and felt his arm go dead. After being put on the 21-day disabled list Richard's doctors discovered a completely obstructed artery in his right arm but doctors concluded that no surgery was necessary. On July 30 Richard suffered a stroke and collapsed in the outfield nearly dying. July 14 would be his final game. The ticket is in excellent condition with some minor corner and edge wear keeping it from the EX/MT level. Clean and colorful an outstanding addition to an All-Star ticket run.
