The 1986 Mets are one of the most widely-collected modern teams their aggressive style of play and 108-win season captured the attention of fans. Led by Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter and outstanding first baseman Keith Hernandez the team also featured young superstars Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry sparkplug outfielder Lenny Dykstra hard nosed second baseman Wally Backman and an incredible pitching rotation that included not only Gooden by Ron Darling Bobby Ojeda Sid Fernandez and Rick Aguilera along with a closer duo of Roger McDowell and Jesse Orosco. Presented are two lineup cards from the dugouts of Mets' opponents. One against the Dodgers is marked as a Dodgers 7-4 victory and appears to be from August 31 at Shea Stadium. In that game Fernando Valenzuela received his 17th win against Ron Darling. The second card is dated October 4 and the lineups correspond with the second game of a doubleheader that date. The Mets got their 107th win of the season that day but more noteworthy was the presence of a young Pirates centerfielder named Barry Bonds near the end of his first season where he would hit just .223 but show flashes of the skills that would blossom in the coming years. Both lineup cards are well-worn with discolorations edge wear and plenty of stray ink marks and stains - as if they were hanging in a major league dugout during a game. Two cards total excellent mementoes of the Mets' greatest season.
