Beautiful cabinet card from the Jones studio in Columbia City Indiana. The photo depicts a ballplayer in uniform wearing a striped cap and posed in a studio setting no identifying information on his shirt or cap. The date "1888" has been written in pencil underneath the Jones insignia. Writing on the reverse reads "Mr. Wilson E Thrush Col. City Ind. An old school friend and also a bas ballist for a great many years." Our research did uncover a Wilson E. Thrush who was born in October of 1863 and lived in Indiana though we found no information about his baseball career. The photo is exceptionally clear and sharp the image of the player suspected of being Wilson Thrush is bold and clean eith outstanding contrast. The detail is strong enough to view the glint in his eye individual hairs in his mustache even small spots on his shirt. A fine 19th Century photograph perhaps with a fun research project to go along with it.
