I have one to sell!
Attractive midgrade specimen with border chipping along the right edge that accounts for the grade along with some very mild corner wear. Despite this the card is well-centered with sleek black borders and a clean unblemished reverse. Clarkson of course never played a game with St. Louis the team with whom he is depicted on his Mayo's card. One of the pitchers who suffered as the pitching rubber was pushed back to its current distance of 60' 6" from home plate in 1893 during the offseason he witnessed his friend and former catcher Chas Bennett lose parts of his legs when run over by a train. In July of that season he was traded to Baltimore but never played again. The inclusion of the card within the set is just further evidence that the Mayo's issue was initially produced in 1894; an 1895 set would likely not have included Clarkson at all.
