1890s cabinet photo taken by the Dana photo studio likely in Pittsburgh. The mount itself is dated 1895 while Smith was a star outfielder with the team having converted from a pitcher despite winning 30 games with Cincinnati in 1887. The photo quality is strong with some obvious wear around the edges and the mount notably a few small tears and creases at the very bottom-right. Some minor surface abrasions are also evident on the reverse. Smith played 14 seasons split primarily between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and finished his career with a lifetime batting average of .310 and an OBP of .398. In 1896 Smith batted .362 his career high but his greatest season was probably 1893 when he hit .346 with 103 runs batted in and 121 runs scored. He was quite an outstanding player for his day.
