Catcher and first baseman Pop Schriver enjoyed a 14-year major league career mostly as a reserve where he hit .264 with no more than 354 at bats in a season. According to The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company Schriver was the first to catch a ball dropped from the Washington Monument; it was years later that Gabby Street did the same (and received all the credit for the story). This is truly an exceptional example depicting the catcher poised as if to throw a ball the details of his dapper uniform clear and visible due to the high quality of the image. The VG/EX+ 4.5 grade assessed by SGC takes into consideration light corner wear and some very minor soiling however the overall quality of the piece is tremendous.
