I have one to sell!
As we have stated in the past it is not our desire to get into the habit of offering more modern cards in our auctions. However 1985 Topps Minis are an exception. These cards were never actually released for public sale but somehow managed to sneak out into the collecting world. Allegedly a result of O-Pee-Chee"s testing of new printing equipment an undersized "set" of 132 cards (the number of cards traditionally found on a single sheet) were printed about 10% smaller than the typical Topps card and on brighter paper than the typical cards. The result is a smaller card more vibrant and reminiscent of some of the "premium" cards that would become the standard in the hobby half a dozen years later. It is theorized that only about 100 sheets of 1985 Minis were printed resulting in just 100 or so copies of each card manufactured. Graded examples are rare and as we can see from this listing at least some of the printed sheets were miscut resulting in printing "freaks" among the sheets. Just ten cards of Hall of Famers were printed in the 132-card "set."Even more rare than the cards themselves are the blank-backed versions of the cards. Some small number of the cards that were printed were only printed on the fronts - the green statistical backs were not added. It is theorized that only about 15% of the Minis that were printed had blank backs. These cards are extraordinarily rare.Presented are nine such cards all with blank backs. Oddly eight of them feature Toronto Blue Jays players. There are three examples of Doyle Alexander two of Buck Martinez one each of Cliff Johnson Lloyd Moseby and Bryan Clark. The one non-Blue Jay is Mets pitcher Walt Terrell. Each of the cards appears in EX/MT to NMT condition with the exception of one Buck Martinez card which exhibits a large wrinkle across the card surface. Regardless this is a group of very rare cards one of the true post-1973 rarities the hobby has seen. 9 cards total.
