Lot Description  

Attractive 1906 glass plate negative featuring Joe Gans ostensibly sparring outdoors. The photo of the "Old Master" fighting amidst brush and rocks lends credence to our observation that cards of African-American fighters near the turn of the century often depict the boxer outside fighting behind buildings while white fighters are depicted in lush regal boxing rings.
