Simply spectacular cardboard advertising display for Utica Athletic Suspenders. Measuring approximately 9 1/8" x 13 1/2" the striking advertisement features a young woman prominently depicted in the foreground a baseball game taking place behind her. The advertising copy appears along the fence upon which the young woman sits. The piece was printed by the Parker-Brawner Company of Washington a well-known lithographer and manufacturer of advertising novelties for the day. The city of Utica New York has a rich baseball history and fielded a team in the New York State League from 1898 through 1917. The Utica Suspender Company opened in 1909 founded by one Henry Sturges and continues to operate today as Sturges Manufacturing Co though they no longer make suspenders. In the 1910s though the company sold its line of suspenders to retail stores and advertised regularly in newspapers as well as in the Saturday Evening Post. This rare display is the only one of its kind we have ever seen. In remarkable condition the color and image quality unblemished for a very slight barely visible abrasion near the red "U" in "Utica " and some very minor age-related soiling and toning on the reverse. An incredibly dynamic piece with stunning graphics and eye-popping visual appeal. A rare baseball-related advertising display piece more than a century old advertising a regional company that still exists today.
