A very interesting type of 1910-era collectible are the die-cut souvenir fans that feature images of the 16 captains of their various teams. These fans printed on heavy paper sometimes included blank scorecards and were affixed by staple to a wooden handle. The fans that were used commercially also contained printed advertisements on the reverse typically for local businesses. This fan contains images of the team captains some of the most popular players of the day including Germany Schaefer Bobby Wallace (HOF) Billy Sullivan Hal Chase George Moriarty Harry Lord Harry Davis Nap Lajoie (HOF) Mickey Doolin (misspelled) Clark Griffith (HOF) Bill Dahlen Bill Sweeney Frank Chance (HOF) Art Devlin Fred Clarke and Roger Bresnahan. This is the more scarce of two similar pieces that are known from the era the more common being an entirely sepia-toned piece with scorecards on both sides. This piece is more elegant a full-color die-cut image of a woman inside a baseball diamond with a full-color baseball at the top center. Typically found printed on the reverse this example is blank an indication that it may have never been used. In extraordinary condition the piece presents as NM though the reverse reveals a corner crease that has broken through the paper on the reverse and appears to have once been repaired with tape that has been removed revealing slight paper loss. The crease is only visible on the front upon careful examination. A spectacular example the finest we have seen.
