One of the more widely-collected tobacco boxing issues the 50-card set designated as "T220" in the ACC is a histocial set that depicts boxers from the 19th Century through the first decade of the 20th Century. For the collector the set packs quite a punch (pun intended) with a large assortment of quality subjects and an attractive format. The issue also contains some very odd illustrations - since boxing was illegal in many places during the 19th Century many depictions of earlier boxers or fights set their subjects in the woods clearings bars or on farms. The T220 set is found with a significant border variation. All 50 cards can be commonly found with a white border. Silver bordered cards are far more scarce perhaps 10% of the existing cards and were likely printed first in the run before the production of the white-bordered versions. There are 25 silver-bordered cards at all typically valued at double the regular white-bordered cards even more if the borders are in sharp condition. Such is the case with this near-set currently ranked #2 on the PSA Set Registry. The set has an overall rating of 5.94 with no card graded below PSA EX 5. The Donovan and Corbett the issue's two notoriously difficult short prints are not included in the set (though the Corbett can be found elsewhere in this auction). A beautiful collection of cards graded as follows: PSA NM 7 (8 cards): Beecher Burke Corbett Edwards Frayne Lavigne McGovern Randall/Belasco. PSA EX-MT 6 (10 cards): Carney Dempsey Erne Gans Jackson Jordan McAuliffe McCoy Moore Wilson. PSA EX+ 5.5 (1 card): Coburn (with man to left); PSA EX 5 (4 cards): Choynski Driscoll/Glover Goldman Ryan. 23 cards total.
