Hall of Famer Martin Dihigo played between the early 1920s and late 1947s in the American Negro Leagues the Cuban League the Mexican League and in the early 1930s the Venezuelan league. He threw no-hitters in three countries (Mexico Venezuela and Puerto Rico) compiled a lifetime .302 batting average and was elected to the Halls of Fame in America Cuba Mexico and Venezuela. Pictured here in a postcard-sized photo dated 1933 (in handwriting) Dihigo steps tot he plate with the opposing catcher signaling to his teammates. A large well-dressed crowd stands and watches. While the photo is outstanding in quality and crispness facial features are clearly not recognizable - a consultation with Negro League and Cuban baseball expert Ryan Christoff confirmed the photo does in fact depict Dihigo and has been seen in larger format. The photo is in VG condition with some mild creasing and significant edge and corner wear along with some writing and paper remnants on the reverse. We do not see evidence of postal use. Still an outstanding and very rare photo depicting a great Hall of Famer with his Caracas team.
