Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Managed by Hall of Famer Mel Ott the 1946 New York Giants finished dead last in the National League 36 games behind the World Champion Cardinals. While the Giants continued to draw during their early postwar years it wasn"t until the arrival of Willie Mays in 1951 that the team would once again rise to prominence. The 1946 team led by first baseman Johnn Mize and pitcher Dave Koslo played in the figurative shadow of their crosstown rival New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers. This beautiful and well-preserved Spalding Official League ball contains 26 signatures: Johnny Gee Ernie Lombardi (HOF) Benne Warren Marv Grissom Sid Gordon Hal Schumacher Bill Rigney Bob Carpenter Jack Kraus Monte Kennedy Jim Gladd Red Kress Woody Abernathy Bill Voiselle Dave Koslo Mel Ott (HOF Clubhouse) Mickey Witek Goody Rosen Johnny Rucker Ken Trinkle Gene Thompson Willard Marshall Johnny Mize (HOF) Jack Graham Dick Bartell and Buddy Kerr. The signatures are all signed in bold black fountain pen. The ball ironically addressed to its recipient by manager Mel Ott has been deemed authentic by JSA with the exception of the Ott signature which is clubhouse. An outstanding representation of a classic New York-area baseball team before their early -50s rise to prominence.
