Spectacular supplement featuring Pittsburgh manager and Hall of Famer Fred Clarke. Taken in 1906 and distributed in a publication called The Index we believe that this is one in what may have been a series of supplements featuring photographs of individual Pittsburgh Pirates. The piece has been trimmed to approximately 7 15/16" x 11 17/8" and subsequently mounted on a sheet of tabloid-sized ledger paper ostensibly for protection in the early 1900s. While the aforementioned mounting results in the piece having a technical grade of POOR the overall presentation is of a much higher grade with significant display value. The image of Clarke is gorgeous with photo credit to "D'Rosser" and copyrighted 1906 by The Index. While we have seen other supplements and premiums issued by the publication those have all been team and stadium photos. This is the first example of a photo of an individual player.
