Fantastic Underwood & Underwood photo depicting Oakland Oaks catcher and future Hall of Famer Ernie Lombardi. The slug (still attached) on the reverse indicates that the 22-year-old catcher was sold to the Brooklyn Robins for $50 000. Erroneously dated in our catalog as a 1928 photo the slug would indicate that the photo should be dated 1930 when Lombardi was purchased. He played his rookie season with Brooklyn in 1931 before moving to Cincinnati where he would spend most of his career winning the MVP award in 1938. The photo itself is in VG/EX condition or perhaps slightly better with some edge wear and a few minor surface abrasions that do not impact the image. The reverse is clean with some written notations and the Underwood & Underwood stamp on the reverse.
