Easily the most popular of all the 1920s strip card sets the W514 set of 1919-21 features a large checklist of 120 players issued in 10-card strips meant to be cut along dotted lines separating each card. The result as with many strip cards are a host of off-condition cards that were often torn rather than carefully cut and as a result miscuts and poorly-shorn borders are common condition flaws. The flimsy paper on which the cards were printed is also an issue making high-grade examples very difficult to obtain.Presented is a relatively spectacular find: one of the set"s key cards that of Babe Ruth with very little rare. Graded Authentic by SGC due to the cut at the right border infringing on the dotted line (a common fault with strip cards as mentioned above) this example is marred by very little wear and almost no fading. The card does have a corner crease (much more visible on the reverse) and some pencil writing on the reverse (which is also toned with age). However strip cards with this level of eye appeal are rare in the hobby. An outstanding specimen of one of Ruth"s many strip cards.Population DataSGC Population: 39 total graded 17 at this level 22 higherPSA Population: 40 total graded 22 at this level 18 higher
