An American featherweight with a 125-18-21 record Abe Attell is better known for his involvement with the 1919 Black Sox Scandal than for his notable boxing career. He won the World Featherweight Championship in 1901 successfully defending the title until 1912. During this time he developed a friendship with gambler Arnold Rothstein. It was later alleged that Attel was the middleman between Rothstein and the members of the Chicago White Sox involved with fixing the 1919 World Series though Attell was ultimately acquitted.Though this card avoids the extensive corner and edge wear that plagues many T9s it is the victim of three pinholes telltale signs of being affixed to a youngster"s wall (likely prompting complaints from parents about the poor quality of role models in sports). An small crease at the upper right exacerbates the card"s flaws as does a heavy crease at the very bottom of the card near the left corner.
