The 2011 World Series pitted the Texas Rangers against the St. Louis Cardinals a seven-game barnburner that saw the Cardinals come out on top. Game three played on Saturday October 22 featured what was at the time just the third World Series game where a player belted three home runs. Cardinals superstar Albert Pujols - perhaps the most popular player in the game at that point - joined legends Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson with that honor but likely eclipsed both with what may have been the single greatest offensive performance in Series history. Hitting third in the order Pujols followed a first inning home run by outfielder Allen Craig by grounding out to third. With the Carinals still ahead 1-0 in the 4th Pujols led off the inning with a single to left only to be erased by a fielder's choice groundout to short by Matt Holliday. After nearly batting around in the 4th Pujols again led off the 5th lining a single to center. Pujols eventually came around to score on a groundout by David Freese the Cardinals increasing their lead to 6-3. Pujols would bat again in the 6th this time belting a three hun home run off Texas reliever Alexi Ogando. Coming to the plate in the fourth consecutive inning Pujols homered to left center off reliever Mike Gonzalez and then capped his day with a third homer in the top of the ninth a solo shot off Darren Oliver. All told Pujols went 5-for-6 with three home runs and six RBI scoring four runs in the process. While his bat was held silent for most of the rest of the series (he would get just one other hit in six games) his Game 3 performance was exceptional. Presented is a full ticket from that day in tremendous condition with very little edge wear beyond the typical wear seen at the perforations. A beautiful colorful display item chronicling one of the highlights of Pujols' legendary career.
