The W516-1 set is a 30-card set of "strip cards " measuring about 1 1/2" by 2 3/8" and could be purchased in full strips and also cut from strips at local stores. Due to the method of separating cards (often involving children which meant ripping cutting with knives or other sharp implements or just generally improper cutting) the cards were rarely separated from their borders properly resulting in a huge number of miscuts. The miscast are of course graded "Authentic" by the grading companies today. To provide an idea of 354 W516-1 cards graded by SGC to date 218 have been graded "Authentic " or approximately 62%. An even higher percentage of W516-1s graded this way with PSA; 288 of 367 cards graded or 78%.The four cards presented here represent four key Hall of Famers from the W516-1 set capped off by the card"s key: that of Babe Ruth. All graded "Authentic" by SGC the primary flaw of these cards is related to the cutting; none of them have been cut to their full borders (and a few have been positively butchered as is the case with many). Of the four the Tris Speaker is closest to full-size; the Authentic designation on that card is possibly debatable. The cards come from an original owner collection consigned to us from Southeastern Pennsylvania all these are fresh to the hobby and submitted by us to SGC. Included in this collection are: #1 Babe Ruth (HOF SGC A severe wear and miscut right edge along with severe print registration issue) #5 Tris Speaker (HOF SGC A general surface corner and edge wear but the appearance of clean cuts) #7 Rogers Hornsby (HOF SGC A severe surface wear and irregular right border cuts) and #8 Walter Johnson (HOF SGC A severe surface and edge wear along with irregular left border cut).An interesting and affordable group of collector-grade cards from an original-owner collection.
