I have one to sell!
Issued in the late 1890s by the National Tobacco Works the N566 Newsboy cabinet set was a massive set that contained hundreds of popular athletes actresses locations politicians and more. The 4 1/2 x 6 1/2" sepia photographs were mounted on a variety of cardboard backings many cream in color but in this case gray with a green border and text. Newsboy cabinets are very highly desirable particularly due to the extraordinary scarcity and value of the 14 baseball players that have been discovered. More than 600 cabinets have been discovered thus far with multiple variations possible. Of the fourteen known baseball players featured in the Newsboy issue just three depict Hall of Famers: one of Amos Rusie and two different featuring John Ward. This example the "Bat at Side" photo is one of the finest known one of just two graded VG/EX 50 by SGC with only one higher. The card's image is impeccable boasting strong clarity and contrast with very little wear to the photo itself. The mount is clean cream with peach printing and the reverse exhibits just a tiny bit of age-related toning. Newsboy cabinets featuring baseball players are very difficult to locate and with just two different Hall of Famers available are very desirable when they become available. Very rarely can one be find in this type of condition; simply an outstanding card.
