Polite and well-written letter from Hall of Fame Manager Connie Mack on Athletics letterhead dated March 22 of 1944. Mack writes in response to someone who clearly requested a job as an official scorer. Mack responded as follows: My Dear Mr. Rice Regret to say that they are no such jobs in professional baseball. Local clubs have had official scorers but are quite sure without pay - the American League appoints there own scores in each city they are news-paper men in good standing of course. The only way you could possibly be appointed would be that you could secure work from the sport department of some newspaper in one of the major citys. I think have covered your question - Sincerely Connie Mack The letter which comes with its original mailing envelope has been very well-preserved by the family of the recipient. In excellent condition full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
