I have one to sell!
With so much of the hobby driven by scarcity it was just a matter of time before collectors began to appreciate the beauty and rarity of game tickets. As ticket collectors begin acquiring tickets to various games the popularity and collectibility of tickets to various significant sporting events naturally became more desirable - particularly as ticket collectors began to attempt to compile "sets" of tickets to similar events. Presented are a group of seven tickets and stubs to games that marked the 3 000th career hit of a Hall of Famer. The group is as follows: 1) Carl Yastrzemski: Boston Red Sox ticket stub September 12 1979 vs. New York Yankees (single off Jim Beattie). It should be noted that this game was also the final Fenway Park appearance of the Yankees' Catfish Hunter. Stub in EX condition with some wear around the perforations. 2) Robin Yount: Milwaukee Brewers ticket stub September 9 1992 vs. Cleveland Indians (7th inning single off Jose Mesa). Large stub is in EX to EX/MT condition. 3) George Brett: California Angels ticket stub September 30 1992 vs. Kansas City Royals (7th inning single off Tim Fortugno). It should be noted that this was part of a 4-for-5 effort for Brett on the 20th Anniversary of Roberto Clemente's 3 000th hig. Ticket stub is in VG condition with edge wear. 4) Dave Winfield: Minnesota Twins full ticket September 16 1993 vs. Oakland A's (9th inning single off Dennis Eckerlsey). Ticket is in EX/MT condition with light corner touches. 5) Tony Gwynn: Montreal Expos full ticket August 6 1999 vs. San Diego Padres (1st inning single off Dan Smith). Ticket is in EX/MT condition with light corner and edge wear. This was the first time a player attained his 3 000th hit on foreign soil (and he did it on his mother's birthday). 6) Wade Boggs: Tampa Bay Rays full ticket August 7 1999 vs. Cleveland Indians (6th inning home run off Chris Haney). One day after Gwynn's hit Boggs became the first player in history to enter the 3 000th hit club with a home run. Ticket is in EX condition slightly miscut with some minor edge wear.
