The World Series is the time when legends are made and the 1977 Series created one of the greatest. Coming off a four game World Series sweep by the Cincinnati Reds in 1976 New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner knew he needed to re-load for the upcoming season. He did so in grand style signing slugger Reggie Jackson as a free agent. Jackson immediately created an uproar by uttering his famous "straw that stirs the drink" comment in a May 1977 interview in Sport magazine; the resultant turmoil began a season-long drama that would eventually nickname the Yankees clubhouse "The Bronx Zoo." The Yankees weathered the storms and won the American League pennant moving on to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The Yankees took the first game at home but were beaten in Game 2. Taking two of three from the Dodgers in Los Angeles the Yankees returned to New York in the driver's seat losing Game 5 to the Dodgers but maintaining a lead of 3 games to 2. In Game 6 Jackson who had already hit three home runs in the past two games drew a walk in the second inning and scored on a Chris Chambliss home run. The Dodgers moved ahead with a Reggie Smith home run in the third. The fourth inning began Jackson's heroics. Connecting on the first pitch from starter Burt Hooton Jackson hit a two-run home run to give the Yankees the lead. The following inning with one man on Jackson took relief pitcher Elias Sosa deep for a second home run. In the eighth Jackson came to bat amidst the chanting crowd and drove the first pitch off Charlie Hough into the stands becoming the first player to hit three home runs in a World Series game since Babe Ruth. Jackson however hit three home runs on three consecutive pitches depositing the final one into the centerfield "Batter's Eye" 475 feet away. Jackson won the World Series MVP and earned the nickname "Mr. October " as he is still known today. Presented is a ticket stub from that magical Game 6 a $10.00 reserved seat emblazoned with the Yankees logo and "1977 World Series" artwork. The ticket is in outstanding condition slightly worn but extremely presentable and worthy of display. A colorful red white and blue ticket from one of the most legendary games in Yankees World Series history.
