Known as "The Big Train," Sprague Cleghorn was a bruising defenseman who played professionally from 1911-29. Skating in The NHA for both the Renfrew Hockey Club and Montreal Wanderers, Cleghorn also featured for the NHL's Ottawa Senators, Toronto St. Patricks, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Bruins. A two-time Stanley Cup champion, Renfrew captured cups in consecutive seasons with the Montreal Canadiens in 1919 and 1920. Remembered as a dirty player with a knack for goalscoring, Cleghorn claimed to have been involved in at least 50 incidents requiring a player to be stretchered off the ice. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1958. This 1910 Sweet Caporal Hockey Postcard of Cleghorn, #24 in the set and his rookie card, exhibits rounding at the corners but otherwise presents beautifully with clean and attractive front and back surfaces. Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA it remains one of only 10 graded examples across both PSA and SGC's population reports combined.
