This SGC AUTH calls out "evidence of trimming" and its relative border sizes imply any scissor work happened along the left or bottom edges. Given the modest staining on front and back, where one appears to carry through on both sides, it's interesting that someone tried to improve its technical grade in this way. Even in collector grade, this artful card impresses the viewer with its abbreviated "Oston" jersey and impressionistic background. Many consider this Wood's "true rookie card."
Three-time champion pitcher and outfielder Joe Wood enjoyed two MLB careers, one as ace pitcher (1908-15) and another as competant outfielder (1918-22). He's one of the very few 20th century players to win 100+ games and collect 500+ hits. This Love of the Game auction offers several key cards in collector grade from the tough American Caramel E91 sets, all colorful and some freshly graded. Many are stars that we rarely find offered elsewhere.
