Kansas City Cowboys shortstop Jack Pickett seems an unfortunate fashion victim in N172 pose #369-3, as his striped shirt and cap add the impression of "jailhouse baseball" to his surroundings. Pickett himself played alongside a number of future luminaries and lost his last starting position (Baltimore 2B in 1892) to 19-year-old John McGraw!

This PSA GOOD+ 2.5 shows a stronger than expected image, with enough detail to appreciate uniform padding at the hip, as well as those unfortunate stripes. Centering and borders each pull their own weight, and corners have minimal wear. Smudges on his nameplate, a key piece of each Old Judge card, do the most to bring down its technical score. It remains a scarce and appealing card, with just four known (one higher) on PSA's population report.

This card appears as #369-3's reference image on page 353 of the Old Judge book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
