Jeremiah Murray's #335-4 studio pose almost escapes the frame itself, as "Miah" reaches for a ball just out of sight. The vast number of possible fielding positions and balls suspended from strings must have eventually encouraged the photographer to try things that tested the limits of what players could do and what their equipment might capture. Three of Murray's poses show a cap sitting at his feet instead of on his head, so perhaps it was the player himself who asked the photographer "to do some silly ones."

This SGC VG-EX+ 4.5 shows an image with just enough clarity to grok the whole scene, from boots to fingers. Miah's dark undersleeves stand out as an unusual uniform feature, suiting the belt and socks for his team's look. Borders and centering are above average, with a small amount of handling marks on its reverse. The population report shows just one graded for this pose, and it appears as #335-4's reference image on page 332 of the Old Judge photography book by Miller, Gonsowski, and Masson. Love of the Game is proud to offer several cards seen in their outstanding work of research and presentation as part of our 100+ N172 listings.
