Unique collection of 42 black and white original snapshot photos originating from former Brooklyn Dodger (1948-55), George "Shotgun" Shuba. Though he is not pictured, Jackie Robinson famously broke professional baseball's color line with this very team when the Triple-A 1946 Montreal Royals opened their International League season against the Jersey City Giants on April 18, 1946. Robinson remained with Montreal for the duration of that year, batting .349 over 124 games while helping guide his club to a Junior World Series title over the American Association's Louisville Colonels. Less than one year later Jackie famously shattered Major League Baseball's color barrier, debuting for the Brooklyn Dodgers on Opening Day - April 15, 1947.
Each photo in this collection measures 3.25" x 4.5" with 18 depicting one or more 1946 Montreal Royals players in uniform during training. George Shuba is, of course, prominently featured. 24 of the included photos depict players out of uniform during leisure time, or scenes from in and around the Royals' training facility in Daytona. Some typical age-related wear can be found across the group, including gentle rounding of corners and small imperfections to the emulsion layers that are difficult to detect without tilting towards a light source. 42 snapshots total.
