Hall of Fame southpaw, Carl Hubbell tosses at the Polo Grounds in this original news service photo from Wide World. Paper caption affixed to verso dates the photo to 10/2/37; the day after Hubbell's start in Game 1 of the 1937 World Series against the New York Yankees. This image served as the inspiration for Hubbell's 1939-46 exhibit card which we have chosen to show for reference purposes and is not included. Central image of King Carl appears to be off-center towards right edge of the 6" x 8.25" photo paper, with a few editorial markings visible within the white borders and a small tear at the lower-left corner. Credit stamping from Wide World has been applied on the reverse beside additional date stamping of "Oct 9, 1937" as the World Series was still underway. Authenticated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA and their full LOA is included.
