Representing 2,048 lifetime home runs in a single image, this original Type I photograph features four of baseball's greatest sluggers as they posed for photographers on Opening Day at Shibe Park in 1930. The New York Yankees one-two punch of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig stand in their away flannels with fellow future Hall of Famers Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons in their Philadelphia Athletics home whites. By this time the Yankees had secured World Series titles with both Ruth and Gehrig on the roster in 1927 and 1928 but Simmons and Foxx would turn the tables, capturing World Series championships of their own in 1929 and 1930, adding another American League pennant in 1931. Beautiful fresh to the hobby 8" x 10" photo is a fantastic rendition of the four superstars with Foxx's face somewhat blurred due to movement on his part as the image was captured. Two small, approx. 1/2" creases appear in the upper-left corner, with a tiny chip at the bottom edge. Otherwise, the photo remains in fantastic overall condition with surprisingly clean emulsion surface and verso displaying credit stamping from the Associated Press. A full paper caption, dated to 4/15/30, remains affixed to verso at the top edge. From LOTG's recent Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
