Alexander famously broke the previous mark of 372 held by Christy Mathewson, only for Mathewson's career win total to increase by one in 1946 when a sportswriter discovered Matty had mistakenly not been credited with a victory in 1902. Both men now remain tied for most career wins by a National League pitcher at 373.
