Large format 8" x 10" news service photograph of Grover Cleveland Alexander in 1929, his fourth season with the St. Louis Cardinals. Fresh to the hobby photo displays typical light handling wear and a chip to the lower-right corner and left edge. Verso exhibits mild toning and includes full paper caption from Wide World noting the future Hall of Famer had just earned his 373rd career victory (the final victory of his storied career), good for best all-time in the National League. Alexander famously broke the previous mark of 372 held by Christy Mathewson, only for Mathewson's career win total to increase by one in 1946 when a sportswriter discovered Matty had mistakenly not been credited with a victory in 1902. Both men now remain tied for most career wins by a National League pitcher at 373. From LOTG's recent Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA as a Type I photo.
