Fascinating collection of 15 snapshots taken during Game 5 of the 1920 World Series at League Park in Cleveland. With the best-of-nine series tied at two-games-a-piece, Game 5 turned out to be one for the ages when, in the fifth inning, Cleveland second baseman Billy Wambsganss turned what remains the only unassisted triple play in postseason history. Additionally, in the top of the first inning, Cleveland's Elmer Smith blasted the first grand slam in World Series history, while Cleveland's starter, Jim Bagby, launched the first World Series home run by a pitcher in the fourth. Cleveland's 8-1 victory put the Indians ahead in the series for good, ultimately besting Wilbert Robinson's Brooklyn Robins in seven games. Collection includes five images taken at field level and ten shot from high in the stands. Most depict fans pouring onto the field, with a nice shot of a throng of Cleveland faithful waiting outside the ballpark, and an interesting image of what appears to be a pre-game ceremony. Close inspection of the scoreboard under magnification confirms the two teams and final score are consistent with that of Game 5 of the 1920 World Series. All 15 photos remain affixed to scrapbook pages with "World Series Cleveland '21" handwritten along the bottom border. This is, of course, incorrect but worth mentioning for clarity. 15 snapshots total from one of baseball history's most historic World Series games.
