Infielder and Puerto Rican native son Coco Ferrer appeared in multiple poses for this winter league Toleteros set, as do several others in its checklist. This card is its "clean shaven" portrait. Love of the Game offers an example of both poses in this auction.
The set of striking black-and-white portraits, with red game text on the back, no doubt impressed collectors for their composition and quality during an era when newspaper photos looked a good deal darker and grainier. Coco himself played multiple seasons in the Negro Leagues with the 1940s Indianapolis Clowns before continuing his career back in the Caribbean.
SGC graded this GOOD 2 for its back toning and flecked ink, perhaps from previous time in an album. The front retains an outstanding central image that compares to higher technical grades, with touched corners and strong borders. The population report shows seven total graded, making this a tough find in any condition.
