Advertising the Orpheum Photographic Studio in Chicago this Real Photo Postcard depicts the great shortstop hamming it up with an unidentified second subject on what appears to be the back of a train car. The Orpheum Photo Studio which billed itself as "The Largest and Best Equipped Novelty Photo Studio in the World " was clearly a studio that took family photos and portraits as evidenced by a number of other real photo postcards viewable via a simple internet search. This particular postcard clearly of Wagner is scarce but has been circulating around the hobby for quite some time. In fact another example was featured in an auction of material from Wagner"s own estate nearly a decade ago. Despite this neither grading company is comfortable encapsulating this card since it doesn"t say "Honus Wagner" on it anywhere and is thus not 100% definitely Wagner. It is as we know 100% definitely Wagner.Technically VG/EX the postcard shows its age with chipping and edge wear along with some minor surface wear. Not postally used the reverse contains no writing or marks but does exhibit light toning. This is a wonderful collectible that shows another side of The Flying Dutchman an interesting and scarce piece that depicts Wagner out of his uniform.
