This PSA PR 1 of Chick Gandil offers the rare chance to net a pre-Black Sox member during his minor league tenure in Montreal. The youthful face and high uniform collar Imperial Tobacco used for this card give Chick an air of "prep school," backed up by its note of his young age (23). Gandil's central image remains strong in spite of creasing and you can read all of the flip side, which shows modest toning from long-term storage.

C46 tobacco cards featured players and teams of the rechristened 1912 International League, the former Eastern League, and targeted fans on each side of the America-Canada border. These prove tough to find today for any player, let alone a well-known major leaguer, however infamous he'd become. The PSA population report contains just 31 Chick Gandil cards, far fewer than in most American-made tobacco sets, making him a key find for Black Sox or C46 collectors.
