Spectacular silky kimono emblazoned with the Giants logo on the back, designed to celebrate the 1960 centennial of the treaty of Amity and Commerce, which established diplomatic relations between Japan and the United States, but with a decidedly baseball flair.  Manufactured by the Tani Shirt company of Tokyo, lettering seems to indicate a relationship between the San Francisco and Yomiuri Giants (which share many graphic elements).

Aside from some areas of mild age-related discoloration, the kimono is in outstanding condition, likely never worn. Consigned from the collection of Clyde King, the kimono is small, more like a shirt but without buttons. King was with the San Francisco Giants in 1970 when the team made the journey to Japan, and he likely obtained this piece while he was there, despite the ten-year gap between the celebration and the Giants' tour. Regardless, a seldom-seen piece of memorabilia that crosses an ocean and binds American and Japanese baseball, from the collection of a former player and manager.
