c.1920's Type III photograph of the Sultan of Swat, Babe Ruth, with silent film star, Baby Snookums. Card collectors will, of course, recognize this image as the source material utilized for for the rare "Babe Ruth and Snookums" promotional arcade card issued c.1926-27. Snookums was portrayed by baby actor, Lawrence "Sunny" McKeen, who was cast by Universal to play the little terror at only two years old. Mckeen appeared as Snookums in a series of silent comedy shorts, known as The Newlyweds and Their Baby, that ran from 1926-29 and later appeared in other projects, one of which became popular enough to justify creating a candy bar named after Mckeen's character, known as "Sunny Jim." 8" x 10" photo offers a great look at the two stars, with some degree of rounding to corners and a 3/4" tear at the top border. Verso exhibits obvious toning to the perimeter with a paper label affixed at the center revealing that "Snookums and Ruth met recently in Washington D.C. just before a Yankee Senators baseball game." Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type III photo by PSA/DNA.
