Babe Ruth crosses home plate in this Type I photo from the decisive sixth game of the 1923 World Series. Historic photo depicts Ruth after blasting a first inning solo shot at the Polo Grounds, his third "circuit clout" of the 1923 Fall Classic. Congratulating Ruth at the plate is batboy, Eddie Bennet, as Giants catcher, Frank "Pancho" Snyder, stands by. The Bambino's heroics would pave the way to a 6-4 Game 6 victory, clinching the very first World Series championship in franchise history for the New York Yankees. It was the third consecutive World Series contested between the New York Giants and New York Yankees but the first "Subway Series" affair as the Yankees had just moved from the Polo Grounds into their own ballpark, Yankee Stadium, to start the season. The presented 8" x 10" photograph, captured from high above the action, exhibits a smooth emulsion surface and clean verso, with visible rounding to the extreme corners. Large credit stamping from International has been applied to center of verso and an original paper caption, dated to 10/15/23, remains affixed along the bottom edge. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
