A star high school athlete in Detroit Bert "Dutch" Lerchen was discovered by Red Sox manager Patsy Donovoan and signed with the Red Sox late in the 1910 season. In 16 plate appearances with Boston the end of that season Lerchen batted .000 playing six games at shortstop before being optioned to the Sacramento Solons of the PCL. The following season Lerchen played 182 games with Sacramento batting 619 times with a .210 average. After the 1911 season he ended his baseball career getting married and moving home to work in the family business. Graded A by SGC due we assume to a light trim this card of Lerchen is one of four PCL cards issued of the one-year player: all issued in 1911 cards are available from the Big Eater T212 Obak and Zeenut PCL sets along with this E100 Bishop. Particularly scarce as are all E100s this card presents extraordinarily well the technical grade completely irrelevant due to the overall difficulty of the card.
