Bright, appealing example of Bob Scheffing wearing the "Tools of Ignorance" (padding and gear) common to catchers. The biography for this Cubs backstop highlights his reliable defense and clutch hitting, which they must've needed more of, since the team struggled to score runs and finished in 8th for 1948. The PSA VG-EX 4 grade reflects wax marks on the back and touched corners on the front, with centering to the southeast. #160 is considered a short-print, with fewer than 100 total on the population report.

Recent research shows that Leaf distributed this set in 1949, instead of the stated 1948, before becoming embroiled in a legal battle with Bowman over their right to use player images, which forestalled similar sets from Leaf. The legal cases would, in turn, inspire Topps to enter the baseball card market a few years later, and they would soon out-compete Bowman itself to become the primary name associated with baseball cards.
